God’s grace is so amazingly incredible, it is beyond our understanding and our ability to fathom. Ephesians 2:6-13 show us the two ends of the spectrum. First, we are told that God is going to take us to heaven for the express purpose of showing kindness to us for all eternity! All God wants to do is bless us beyond our wildest dreams for millions and billions and trillions of years, actually, for all eternity! Life there is going to be so incredible!
And how did this amazing situation come about? Not by anything we did. We were not good or great in any way. We were not extra loving or kind-hearted. We were not necessarily devoted to God in any meaningful way. We actually were vile and sinful enemies of God who kept choosing Satan’s side over God ever time (see vv.11-13). And what does God do with such a group of people like us? He does what we just described in the above paragraph. He is going to eternally bless us, not because of our works, but because of His love, mercy, and grace.
The only way that you can ever become the kind of believer that God has called us to be is to come into a deep understanding of the amazing heights of God’s mercy to us. Remember what He has done for you, and then let Him make you into His workmanship, living a life of good works, as God intended!
